IN-HOUSE COUNSEL – INSURANCE – HS0042
Reporting to General Counsel, you will support the legal needs of various Risk and Broking lines of business and will manage a stimulating and varied range of legal issues, both contentious and non-contentious, primarily relating to insurance and agency law matters. The role will include, where necessary, the retention and oversight of external counsel and to work with other internal counsel within the organisation:-
- Providing general legal, transactional, and regulatory advice and counsel to risk and broking lines of business and other business and functional areas as required
- Serving as trusted adviser and resource on legal matters for business segments on legal risks and mitigation strategy
- Direct involvement with negotiating and drafting of significant commercial agreements
- Interfacing with Company’s business clients, (re)insurers, vendors and other parties
- Working with the Legal Team in GB (and other territories as required) as a high-functioning and collaborative group
- Keeping abreast of relevant and proposed legislative change; and
- Retaining and overseeing external counsel as needed in connection with the provision of legal support to relevant business units
The Requirements
- Understanding legal issues affecting international insurance brokers and (re)insurance products
- Managing and resolving contentious claims against brokers
- Drafting, negotiating and amending commercial agreements relating to the provision of broker and agency services
- Knowledge of and advising on regulatory issues as they affect brokers’ duties and obligations
- Knowledge and/or experience in UK financial services laws and regulation
- Reporting to and managing relationships with business and functional stakeholders
- Ability to analyse and summarize key legal and business issues and alternatives for executive decisions
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritise multiple tasks
- Excellent communication skill
