R&D TAX MANAGER – LONDON – £65 – £75K + bonus – JOB REF: HS0115
One of the largest consultancy businesses is currently seeking an experienced R&D Tax professional to join their Innovation Reliefs and Incentives team to provide advice on R&D Tax Credits, Patent Box and potentially Grants services. The team is made up of tax, engineering, science and technology specialists providing expert, high quality advice to multi-national clients across a wide spectrum of industries.
This managerial role is a great opportunity for someone wishing to step up to manager level. Previous experience of advising on R&D tax reliefs for large organisations and managing junior team members is essential.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Manage and work with engagement teams to develop claim methodologies and prepare R&D tax relief and Patent Box claims for submission to HMRC.
- Project manage and solve problems by advising clients in the application of complex legislation to real life situations.
- Lead meetings with the financial client stakeholders; and provide expert advice in relation to innovation advisory services (R&D, Patent Box, Grant Applications). Chair/Co Chair and support the technical specialists in meetings with senior technical client stakeholders.
- Manage the process for preparing both the technical and financial elements of our client deliverables, including ensuring correct quantification of R&D/Patent Box claims and supporting the firms technical team documenting the work being undertaken by clients within technically complex projects for submission to HMRC.
- Liaising with HMRC specialists to facilitate the agreement of R&D & Patent Box claims.
- Establish and maintain strong client relationships.
- Assist with business development opportunities.
- Deliver comprehensive proposals and taking part in presentations/ pitches as required.
Required skills for the role:
- 4/5 years’ experience within an accounting / taxation background – ideally from another consulting firm i.e. Big4 (tax or accounting qualification not essential but is preferred)
- Significant industry experience in R&D Tax with a focus on the costing side and ideally the Patent Box tax legislation, and its application to ensure correct quantification of claims.
- Able to understand key tax/costing concepts relevant to R&D and ideally Patent Box claim preparation, as well as the capability to work within cross-disciplinary teams.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and critical thinking to assist clients
- Excellent communication skills and ability to lead finance discussions and explain complex legislative concepts to finance and scientists/engineers within industry, who often do not have any prior experience of the tax definition of R&D.
- Be capable of producing high quality, professional documentation and reports for C-suite stakeholders.
- Able to demonstrate project management skills and an ability to manage own workload, as well as delegating to staff members.
